Becky's Story
Driving along the road, Jamie Hoover spotted an emaciated, wounded horse searching for food and fresh water. The poor creature had severe wounds on both sides of her withers. Dried puss had eaten away all the hair as it spilled over her shoulders. It was obvious that these wounds were severely infected and had remained untreated for some time. It was heartbreaking to see this courageous animal fight to survive.
Jamie immediately called the Sheriff's department to locate the owner of this abused, neglected creature. The owner was found and given 24 hours to treat her wounds. The following day, Jamie went back and found the horse standing, untreated in the middle of a junk yard with no food or water and temperatures rising over 100 degrees. Jamie took immediate action and within days the owner signed over custody. She was officially named Becky's Hope. "Becky" in tribute to Jamie's grandmother, Becky, who recently passed away and "Hope" for the relief of abused and neglected horses everywhere....
The real work began once Becky was safe at the rescue and after surgery at Texas A&M. Her rehabilitation included giving her 2 shots - twice a day, flushing out the wounds twice daily and putting her on a specialized, high nutrient feed.
